Upcoming the X Chess Tournament Remberto Fernández
For the first time, the University Chess Tournament Remberto Fernández, organized by the University of Informatics Sciences (known as UCI), will open its doors to the world. In its tenth edition, the event, which will take place from March 15th to 24th, will be attended by participants from four countries.
Regarding the upcoming of the event, Mella newspaper spoke with the MSc. Isbel Herrera del Sol, director of the UCI Honorary Chess Chair and organizer of the tournament.
The international referee also stated that 22 players will compete in this contest, four foreigners from countries such as Colombia, Dominican and Norway and 18 Cubans. Among the main figures will be the Cuban International Masters: Henry Soto Hernandez (Elo 2 434), Alexey Fernández Cardoso (Elo 2 431) and FIDE Master Dylan Isidro Berdayes Ason (2 414), all of them exceed 2,400 Elo.
Herrera del Sol, also commented that the event will be made up of the elite group of 10 players, which grants International Master standard for those who reach 6 points. It will also have Premier and Talent groups with six players each and will compete twice.
Nine rounds will be developed in the Elite group and in the Premier and Talents 10, which begin at 3:00 p.m., and specifically, will be played in the Chess Chair and in the Postgraduate Classroom 1. In the Talents group will play four children, among them is Lázaro Alberto González Arredondo, the youngest FIDE Master of our Island, explained the organizer, who also highlighted the visit of the FIDE Referees José Sarmientos of Colombia and Oscar Angulo Cubero of Costa Rica, who will work in the Elite group as chief referee and deputy, respectively.
In the event that has as main objective to achieve the exchange and foster the passion of the science game, our house of high studies will be represented by Professor Reyder Cruz De la Osa from Faculty 3 in the Elite and by student Pabel Llambia Queen of the Faculty 4 in Talents.
