Yoana González reaffirms herself in the elite of Cuban chess
Yoana González was reaffirmed in the elite of the sport of the 64 squares to be placed for the second time in her sport career among the eight best in the country.
In the most recent edition of the National Championship of Chess, the representative of our University showed her quality by defeating established players of the country, which postulates her to integrate the national preselection of this discipline.
The native of the province of Villa Clara pointed out that it was a very difficult event because it was measured with consecrated players and even the young ones showed to a quite high level.
In that sense she stressed that they were very tough matches in which she had to face national team figures like Maritza Arribas, Oleiny Linares and Yaniet Marrero and in which she learned several elements that serve her for other tournaments of this level.
She stated that she is not totally satisfied because she hoped to improve the seventh place she reached in the previous edition, but considering that she faced the elite of this sport she recognizes that it is a meritorious performance.
Asked about how she faced a tournament of this magnitude, she meant that preparation in the world of chess is extremely difficult because it requires many hours of study and consecration.
In my case, she stressed, it requires an extra sacrifice because I alternate chess with my studies and for this National Championship I could only play a previous tournament at Sevilla Hotel.
Representing the UCI in an event of this level is a great challenge that she assumes with much responsibility, she added, while highlighting the support that she has always received from the school cathedra and the entire chess family of this house of high studies.
The eighth place reached by Yoana González in the 52nd edition of this contest is the work of her dedication to this discipline and corroborates the excellent sporting moment in which she is , which has made her one of the main figures of female chess in our country .
