The world's largest video game competition, Global Game Jam (known as GGJ), was officially inaugurated this Friday at the University of Informatics  Sciences (UCI) as a venue to promote innovation and experimentation in the field of recreational software, promote collaboration at  National level, as well as to promote the debate on the development of this specialty in Cuba.

With the presence of Ph.D. Raydel Montesino Perurena, Deputy rector of the UCI, and the MSc. Gorm Lai, president of the Global Game Jam, engineer Reinaldo García, coordinator of the organizing committee, announced that in the Cuban headquarters of the video game competition 130 players participate,  joined in 27 teams.

A representation of United nations agencies in Cuba selected climate change as the sub-theme of the event. In their speeches, panelists recognized the potential of video games for youth education and urged programmers, designers and developers to demonstrate their skills in favor of topics related to inclusion, respect for diversity and non-violence towards women and girls.

In that sense, Gorm Lai, president of Global Game Jam, added at the conference Tips and tricks that every developer should know and that the idea of this event is to share the experiences of creating video games being aware of the impact they have on the intended audience.

The agenda of the event, sponsored by the Vertex center of this institution, the Ministry of Higher Education and the offices in Cuba of UNDP, FAO - Unesco and Unicef, foresees for the afternoon teamwork and the presentation of the central theme of the event.
