A solid link of the university-industry relationship
This Wednesday afternoon, March 22nd, a group of outstanding students and specialists from the Center for the Development of Free Solutions (Cesol), belonging to school 1 of the University of Informatics Sciences (known as UCI) visited the Industrial Company for Informatics, Communications, and Electronics (Gedeme).
This industrial complex is a state-owned socialist company, belonging to the Electronic Industry, Computing, Automation and Communications Group (Gelect) of the Ministry of Industries (Mindus) and its social purpose is to produce, assemble, install and market systems, equipment and parts of computing, communications, electronics and other fields of electrical engineering, office furniture and products, parts and mechanical parts.
Likewise, it provides installation services for telephone plants and systems for info-communications, including associated services. It also carries out the assembly, maintenance, repair and technical assistance of the products it markets.
During the staying in this center, they visited the exhibition room where they exhibited all their finished products, the Production Workshop with the new assembly line of GDM laptops, and the test room where these sixth generation laptops were submitted for two hours to force testing of its components.
It also has an area for reliability tests and others that control the quality of the parts and pieces when they arrive and when they are already assembled.
As Fernando Fernández Fernández, head of the company's Informatics solutions project informed us, so far that only two months after starting the production of tablets (8 and 10 inches) and laptops, the behavior of the equipment is satisfactory and customers have been satisfied with their benefits.
As for the guarantee, said Fernandez, that it lasts two years and provides technological support for three to four years of all equipment.
In the same way the MSc. Yoandy Pérez Villazón, director of Cesol, told us that in addition to providing the open source operating systems Nova and Novadroid for these computer technologies, Gedeme is also marketed, Xilema Spec software for component testing; Clonix Xilema for the cloning of systems on hard disks and from about six months NovaNas, which is used in another line that produces servers for data storage management.
Undoubtedly a solid link of the university-industry relationship matches with the current development of computer systems around the world to provide joint solutions to the problems of technology.
