The Rector of the University of Informatics Sciences of Cuba (known as UCI), Ph.D. Miriam Nicado García, concluded on Friday a visit to the Dominican Republic satisfied to have expanded relations with local schools.

She explained that as part of the international collaboration strategy of the universities of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, the UCI also develops relationships with different educational institutions around the world.

In this case, we made this visit to the Dominican Republic with the objective of expanding these relations and also sign a collaboration agreement with the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), explained the member of the Cuban Council of State.

She pointed out that this document is a framework collaboration agreement that provides the possibility of exchanging professors and scientists in the area of information technology, and can generate one or more specific actions, according to the interests of the parties.

She said that during the visit she also exchanged with officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, the Minister of Women, as well as university rectors.

In all cases we have talked about the future exchange of professionals, student exchange, collaboration in the area of postgraduate and information technology that is our specialty and all this will lead to broadening the relations of the UCI with this sister nation, said also the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba.

A special moment of her visit was the attendance at the inauguration of the Polytechnic named after Máximo Gómez, donated by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, to the southern city of Baní, the birthplace of the Dominican pro-independence activist who became the supreme head of the Liberating Army of Cuba.

I remembered the Commander in Chief there. His vision of bringing school and education to any corner of the world. Creating that center was historic. There converge the ideas of José Martí (1853-1895), Máximo Gómez (1836-1905) and Fidel Castro (1926-2016), she said.

In that place I could see how a Gomez dream came true when he said that someday in his town there might be a small school for children, and I also felt the detachment of Fidel Castro from not thinking anything material to him but to society Because he put in that project the funds of a prize he had won, she said.

There I saw children and young humble people studying, who now can also provide a service to their community. They produce food (meat, dairy and preserved fruits), study specialties that will contribute to the development of their country and I felt very happy talking to them because they confirmed that the objective with which the Polytechnic was created was considered, she said.

She added that the school shows an interesting link between study and work, the application of a Martians principle that Fidel Castro brought to reality and said that seeing students passionately explain how they make their products understood that it is a system too Based on competencies.

It is a model that looks like the one in the UCI and also in our medical schools, because the student learns while working while contributing to society and it is a good experience to spread it more in the Dominican Republic,  Ph.D Nicado said.
