At the crossroads of Mathematics and Logic
Reasoning, creativity, entertainment and personal development were the letters of competence that illuminated the Mathematics Olympiad held at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) on Tuesday.
The most advanced students in Algebra, Analytical Geometry and Mathematical Analysis came all together last month, representing their schools, taking a five-question exam that assessed the power and capacity of their neurons
At the crossroads of Mathematics and Logic, thinking scrutinized every solution "like a piece of artwork", as described by FICI interviewee and ACM-ICPC enthusiast Marco Antonio Batista Zaldívar.
The problems on elementary mathematics and basic themes of university mathematics allowed us to identify how mathematical assistants such as Derive, MatLab, Maxima or Octave are used in solving problems.
The Olympiad not only seeks to stimulate interest in Mathematics at university level, but to promote research and at the same time foster friendly relations and cooperation among students and teachers from different schools.
Close to the celebration of its 15th anniversary, for the first time UCI merges its training, research and postgraduate purposes into a single event that includes the Scientific Conference (JCE, the Spanish acronym for Jornada Científica Estudiantil) and the Scientific Conference of the Computer Science Engineer(JICI, Spanish acronym for Jornada del Ingeniero en Ciencias Informáticas).
The event is actually celebrating the 95th anniversary of the Federation of University Students (FEU) and the 55th Anniversary of the Young Communist League (UJC).
