University of Albany and The University of Informatics Sciencies sign collaboration agreement

A high-level delegation from the University of Albany, located in the United States  state of New York, was received this March 23rd in the model of the University of Informatics Sciences (known as UCI) with the objective of formalizing an academic exchange between both institutions. Upon arrival, the delegation was received by Ph.D. Miriam Nicado García, rector of the UCI and members of the University Council.

The US delegation was chaired by Ph.D. James R. Stellar, president of the University of Albany; Hany Shawky and Kevin J. Williams, deans; Sanjay Goel, associate professor and students Nicholas Rizo and Beny E. Poy.

During this first day, the official presentations of both institutions took place. At the meeting, the intentions of a collaboration of the parties were explicit, which were formalized with the signing of a framework agreement of collaboration in the academic and scientific field by the maximum academic figures.

Also, within the activities developed at the University of Informatics Sciences, the master lecture on cybersecurity was given in the Conference Room of the Teaching building 4. The lecturer, P.hD. Sanjay Goel is an Associate Professor in the Information Technology Management Department at the University of Albany and Director of Research at the New York State Cyber Security Center.

Among the topics addressed he emphasized the importance that must be given to security in our institutions due to the constant threats of attacks that occur in cyberspace.

During the meeting, he presented several examples of cyber attacks carried out in recent years and the consequences they caused. Cybersecurity remains a major challenge, he said, referring to the challenges of new developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

A special moment of the exchange were the words of Ph.D. James R. Stellar, who thanked the University of Informatics Sciences for the warm welcome given to his delegation and he referred to the possibility of an exchange between the two institutions.

The days remaining until March 25th include sessions of scientific exchange of visitors with members of the research groups of our university.

The state-owned University of Albany has a rich history that goes back more than 170 years, hosting more than 17,000 students and 125 graduate programs. Among its attractions are the Museum and Library of the State of New York.
