The Hall Room of the school building Camilo Cienfuegos at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) was the venue for the inauguration, this Friday, January 19, of a Methodological and Scientific Workshop, developed as part of the activities of the Fidel-Maestro, Martí-Maestro tribute days. It was dedicated to these two great figures who taught us that teaching is one of the most noble and necessary professions.

The meeting started with the “Martí in Fidel” panel, introduced by Dr.Sc. María Caridad Valdés Rodríguez, methodologist at the Center for Innovation and Quality in Education, and Dr.Sc. Lázaro Valdés Pérez, methodologist of the Directorate of Staff Management, whose ideas are summarized in his own verses.

MAESTROS

El niño que fuera un día,
rebelde ante la injusticia
llegó a tener la pericia
de una enorme maestría.
Hoy la nación que quería
le rinde tributo entera,
porque convirtió en trinchera
la idea, y del conocimiento
hizo el firme fundamento
de su patria y su bandera.

Tuvo su aula en el Moncada
en el combate, en la guerra.
En el Granma y en la Sierra
con su tiza fue marcada
la ruta que un día alcanzada
nos trajo hasta el socialismo.
No pudo el imperialismo
opacar la eterna aurora
de su obra educadora

Martí, maestro mayor,
a su tiempo adelantado.
Fidel alumno aplicado,
entusiasta profesor.
Ambos dieron lo mejor
de su vida a la nación,
por eso esta profesión
es homenaje constante
a esos inmensos gigantes,
padres de la Educación.

Ser un maestro cubano,
es un continuo bregar
por el infinito mar
del pensamiento martiano,
es ser sensible y humano,
es ser creador, ser artista
de ese arte que conquista
con el infinito amor,
es ser un fiel seguidor
de la obra fidelista.

The panel ended with the intervention of Dr Sc. José Ortiz Rojas, Director of Undergraduate Education, who reported some of the ideas recently defended in the Methodological Meeting about the redefinition of UCI current Professional Model. He said that among its advantages there will be a better organization and stimulation for the professional practice.

To conclude, three methodological classes associated with disciplines of the professional practice were delivered. These had been selected from some of the high quality and useful classes presented by young professors, as part of the academic rank promotion exercises for PhDs, Full professor and Associate Professors.

The classes in question were: Programming, prepared by Dr.Sc. Yusniel Hidalgo Delgado, and Professional Practice, elaborated by Dr.Sc. Hubert Viltres Sala; while Dr.Sc. Marieta Peña Abreu delived hers on Software Engineering and Management.

The importance of this Methodological Scientific Workshop, chaired by Dr.Sc. Natalia Martínez Sánchez, Vicerector for Academic Affairs, and attended by other members of the University Council and professors of this institution lies on its contribution to the professional development of our teachers, and the possibility to help them reach the summit of the path towards a University of excellence.
