In order to have some more detailed knowledge about the pre-conference workshop Continuous Integration: influence on the productivity and quality of software development, on the occasion of the VIII International Workshop on Quality in Information and Communication Technologies (Calidad 2018) our editorial staff spoke with MSc. Reynaldo Álvarez Luna, Head of the Technical Department of the Project Management of the UCI, who will be imparting practical knowledge on this topic.

Here are some of the ideas this professional shared with us.

Professionals to whom the workshop is addressed

It is intended for project leaders, developers, architects, quality specialists and configuration managers.

Requirements or minimum knowledge those interested in these workshops must possess.

Knowledge of the software development process and of a version control system.

Where can we find information to document ourselves about this topic?

What is continuous integration: https://www.thoughtworks.com/continuous-integration

Jenkins user documentation: https://jenkins.io/doc/

Other sources of information on the internet.

How important is it to receive this knowledge?

To identify bottlenecks in integration, deployment and testing processes.

To begin or to deepen on the use of continuous integration, to know the tools and software development activities that are impacted by this practice.

Impact of these practices on the computerization of the country and sustainable development

The greatest impact can be seen in the improvement of the development process and in the integration of those involved in projects. The continuous integration is the first step for the adoption of a Devops culture in organizations, because it starts with the code and ends with the product deployment.

This would considerably reduce the resources we currently devote to the deployment, support and updating of systems that are mostly carried out in situ.

What is guaranteed when the product goes through these processes?

With the adoption of continuous integration, a greater impact is achieved in the development process, product integration and delivery is streamlined.

Depending on the degree of introduction that is achieved from practice, it can influence the product quality, because unit tests, security tests or others that affect the final quality of the product are executed at each integration point.
