A lecture on drug prevention at UCI
As part of the activities developed on the third anniversary of the creation of the Department of University Welfare, at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI), the lecture Prevention on Drugs: Dangers and Challenges was delivered by the Dr. and Master in Prevention, Tamayo Turcios Lima.
How can one grow in the face of adversity without using a substance so harmful to the human organism? This was the first question introduced by the professor and head of the Vocational Education and Professional Guidance (FVOP) Department of the Ministry of Interior, in order to guide the auditorium into the brutal phenomenon that ignores race, social level and sex: drugs.
The video room of the Wifredo Lam Cultural Center welcomed this specialist with an outstanding professional career in the prevention of drug consumption, who explained the four reasons why the consumption of narcotics is a threat to Cuban society: it constitutes a national security problem, it is the antithesis to the Battle of Ideas, it destroys families and also the body of human beings.
"When people decide to start abusing a harmful substance, there begins a flash that could be positive or negative, for some human beings; then the plateau stage starts, this is when they begin to consume, they also make a tolerance to the substances, and to satisfy their needs they consume even more.”
In a second moment, Dr. Turcios Lima gave the floor to the educational instructors, workers and students of the university community, who discussed how to contribute from their positions to prevention, they referred to the actions that could be taken to counter attack this phenomenon, and exposed the preventive strategies undertaken by the academic institution to fight against addiction.
"This academic institution, conceived and designed by Fidel Castro Ruz, which has computer specialists graduated with high level, must always watch over its human capital and undertake proactive actions against the consumption of drugs, so as to protect the image and the prestige of this University ", as commented by Dr. Tamayo Turcios in the meeting.
