Demanding Journey on the first day of UCIENCIA 2016
The II UCIENCIA 2016 International Scientific Conference will be held from November 24 to 26 at the University of Informatics Sciences (known as UCI), with the participation of 130 speakers and important lectures from Chile, Venezuela, Mexico, Belgium, Spain, Colombia, Jamaica, Burkina Faso, Mozambique and ten institutions in Cuba, among others (14 in total).
The opening was attended by Ph.D. Marisol González Pérez, Director of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Higher Education; Ph.D. Miriam Nicado García, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee Party of Cuba , member of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba and Rector of the UCI; Ph.D. Raydel Montesino Perurena, Deputy rector of this center, as well as other members of the University Council and invited to the event.
Our Rector welcomed the participants, who enjoyed the cultural moment presented. Montesino, also president of the UCIENCIA Scientific Committee, reported on the program and introduced Ph.D. Rafael Bello Pérez, director of the Center of Computer Studies of the Central University Marta Abreu de Las Villas, in charge of presenting the first master lecture: "Data science".
With relevant merits in Cuba and the world, Bello Pérez referred to the bidirectional relationship between data science and artificial intelligence, two techniques in the field of Informatics that have a great impact in the modern world.
The meeting will host 18 conferences; four of them lectures and eight workshops where they will debate about free software, artificial intelligence, the impact of information and communication technologies in society, computer project management, computational mathematics, software engineering and quality, science teaching computer science and university extension.
Participants in the scientific and academic exchange posed for the official photo of UCIENCIA 2016 at the main entrance of the room of the event at building 4 before taking a break to continue the activities in the afternoon.
The second lecture: "Theory VS applications?" was taught at 2:00 p.m. on this November 24 by Ph.D. José Ruiz Shulcloper, advisor to the Vice-rector's Office of Research at the University of Informatics Sciences and a senior researcher with relevant national and international merits.
Rather than lecturing, Shulcloper shared reflections on some issues on the subject, including the minimum requirements to increase the effectiveness of knowledge application in professional practice.
Based on his knowledge and experience, the lecturer said that one of the problems in all parts of the world is the adequate introduction of computer tools to provide practical solutions, especially those that impact the economy, social welfare and general development . All this requires applications that are often underestimated or ignored.
On the first day of UCIENCIA 2016, participants attended the room "Me dicen Cuba" of building 1, to the activity for the "Tenth Anniversary of the Cuban Journal of Computer Science (RCCI) and visited the Exhibition Hall of the Cuban Informatics industry , located in Teacher 2. They also developed the panel "Applications of artificial intelligence and pattern recognition to project management".
To conclude the day, they realized the collateral activity "Sowing future", with the planting of the tree UCIENCIA 2016, that in saying of Dr.C. Raydel Montesino, his growth will symbolize the rise of science in our house of high studies.
