Walking with our Commander in Chief
As Carilda Oliver Labra said today, do not cry, Fidel does not have to be reborn because he has not died.
Even though it was expected that at some point the Commander of the Revolution would disappear physically, the night of November 25th and the night of the 26th were shocking to Cuba as a whole, the commotion of the news proved to the Cuban people was not prepared to give him the last good-bye. Our University, far from starting for the rehearsals of the march of December 2nd, had to change course to mourn the departure of our Fidel and enlist to pay the tribute.
Everyone, students, teachers and workers forgot about the fatigue and joined in a massive way to the farewell of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution. I was particularly touched by the sight of a whole country crying as if they had lost a father. To see him leave Havana to rest forever in his Santiago was sad, but he has not been alone, they are kept a cedar box and a Cuban flag, accompanied by his military escort and an entire village along the Island that will not allow go alone to his rest.
His friends of ideals and battles have come to say good bye to him. Maduro made clear that Fidel overcame his mission on this Earth, overcame it beyond the greatest expectations that could have, few lives have been so complete and so bright. The first words spoken by Correa will not be forgotten: He died undefeated, only the inexorable passage of the years could defeat him. He died the same day that 60 years before, with 82 patriots, he left Mexico to make history. We are living immensely sad days, in the streets silence is heard and pain is felt, but as Carilda Oliver Labra said today, we must not cry, Fidel does not have to be reborn because he has not died, he was a man who took from the earth the juice that no plant has given. Fidel, we will always remember and we will make our the refrain of the song that Raúl Torres wrote for you: "Man, the grateful ones accompany you, as we will always remember your achievements, nor death believe that it took you." Every Cuban has made his own these days "I am Fidel" ... until forever Commander.
