Every December 22, the Cuban people celebrate Teachers’ Day. It was on this day that our country could declare itself an Illiteracy Free Territory, with a campaign carried out in a short period of time, thanks to the work of an army of young people from the Conrado Benítez brigades who flooded every corner to teach the poor how to read and write.
From that moment on, education became one of the strongholds defended by the Revolution to make the Martian precept of " being educated is the only way to be free” a reality. It is education that has set Cuba as world reference for international organizations.
The best teacher is not the one who teaches more, but the one who teaches his students with dedication and love thus leaving an imprint on them to last for their future life.
The University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) as part of the Cuban educational system has already graduated more than 14000 professionals. At present, many of them contribute to the education of new generations; others, although not graduated yet, are members of the Movement of Student-Teachers who also collaborate teaching secondary and pre-university classes.
UCI has a faculty of very well prepared teachers who give their best training and educating the future professionals who will develop the software industry and computerization of the country in different sectors.
To continue defending the educational work created by the Revolution and the legacy of Felix Varela, José de la Luz y Caballero, José Martí and Fidel Castro as the greatest educators of our country is the mission that lies ahead.
Let us then extend to UCI professors and student teachers a special recognition on this day, including those that at the moment are fulfilling internationalist missions in several countries of the world.
