UCI supports sanitation activities in La Lisa
Since last Wednesday, brigades of workers, student leaders and production specialists from the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) have contributed to the recovery effort of La Lisa municipality in Havana, following Hurricane Irma’s wrath.
With the disposition and solidarity that identifies this institution, the brigades arrived at the town of San Agustín, as corroborated by the vanguard of this first solidarity brigade.
"The most important thing is to have disposition, willingness, and a little humanism, and to show our love for all the Cuban people, for all those people in the areas close to our University," said Ing. Lester Collado Rolo, general secretary of the trade union at UCI.
Collado alluded to Fidel's example and the legacy of his ideas to apply the concept of solidarity, to give everything we have to support the Revolution.
"I believe that the mere sight of the damages caused by Irma, makes all those who feel revolutionary shudder but also feel the need to contribute to face the recovery efforts anywhere, without no right to tire out," said the young leader, who learned to manipulate a chainsaw in just one day.
In addition, the President of the San Agustín Community Council, José Castañeda Martínez, pointed out that the aid of the educational center to the community of San Agustín concentrated on the sanitization of the main avenues 230, 250, 240, 31, 23 and 51 to subsequently provide for the improvement of the rest of the streets.
"We are grateful for the collaboration of the university in this community, which has approximately 41 000 inhabitants and 11 schools," Castañeda acknowledged.
San Agustín was mainly affected by uprooting trees and the knocking down of power lines, these latter restored to 90% until this Wednesday.
"I believe that the mere sight of the damages caused by Irma, makes all those who feel revolutionary shudder and also feel the need to contribute to face the recovery efforts anywhere without practically no right to tire out," said Lester Collado Rolo
