Gerdys Jiménez, future Ph.D. in Computer Science of the University of Informatics Sciences
The accreditation process of the Doctorate in Computing from the University of Informatics Sciences (known as UCI), will take place in this institution from April 24th to 28th.
The scientific training program up to date has graduated 28 Ph.D.s and has an enrollment of 45 applicants, of whom 19 belong to this house of high studies.
Gerdys Ernesto Jiménez Moya, director of the Center of Geoinformatics and Digital Signals of the UCI, started in 2014 in the research seminars developed by the Special Scientific Training Program in Computer Science (known as PEFCI) of this center, and following a call for that same date to select a new group of students, enroll in doctorate in Computer Science.
The reporter had the opportunity to talk to this Ph.D. applicant who first told us about his research and how he got the approval of the issue.
The subject I am working on, project control model based on the geo-referential analysis for decision support is a continuation of my master's thesis and is closely related to one of the lines of research developed by the center where I work at.
Achieving the approval of the topic is quite complicated because you must demonstrate the relevance and novelty of the research at different levels, which ends with the opinion issued by the CITMA. To this end, it is important to emphasize the importance of the working sessions in the research group, in the Scientific Council of the faculty and in the PEFCI; Because all the recommendations from these spaces were very valuable to argue the proposal. In the year 2015 I received the approval of CITMA and from that moment I officially became an aspirant.
About the work process by the Doctorate Committee and the Scientific Council, the master's degree in science also stated:
The control of the activities of the Doctoral Plan has been systematic since several workshops are designed to check the progress and the quality of the results. For example, PEFCI seminars are held on a weekly basis, and at two times of the year, two concentrates are planned where most of the researcher's time is prioritized to be devoted to the development of the thesis. This propitiates and forces a systematic work in the fulfillment of the activities of your plan.
Jiménez Moya, in the process of the development of scientific work has achieved the publication of articles in recognized journals, where the role of the tutor said, has been relevant, due to suggestions and recommendations to define an appropriate strategy in the presentation of results and to reach a high degree of generalization of the proposal in different scenarios of solution.
The future Ph.D. in Computer Science, at the end of the conversation, made us aware that the scientific training program developed by this house of high studies has strengths that make it worthy of an accreditation of excellence and referring to this specified.
The first is the experience of the members of the staff in the training of Ph.D.s in the area of computer science, which is evident in the number of graduates of the specialty that have achieved in recent years. The systematicity of activities and the scientific exchange workshops that are planned. The planning of a series of courses, intentionally, that allows applicants to incorporate methodological skills that facilitate the development of research and technological infrastructure available for the development of this work.
