Global Game Jam: A potenciality of video games in Cuba

The University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) is since 2015, one of the official headquarters of Global Game Jam, the world's largest video game contest that concluded its 2017 edition on Monday.
After the emotions experienced by the award for the best 2D graphic design, El Periódico Mella exchanged at the closing of the event with representatives of the Delta Team of the University of Havana, who confessed passionate about creating fun, creative and experimental video games.
The professor of the alma mater in the capital of the country , David Darías, meant that this event is one of the biggest international video games, "that the UCI is part of this event is an impressive thing because it has worked hard to be part of one of the most relevant experiences in the development of multimedia ".
He added that it gives them the possibility to exchange knowledge about the multimedia creation and above all to know sources of development, programming, design and allows them to be 48 phenomenal hours creating new content related to local issues and with those proposed by the event.
"Before the Global Game Jam," he said, "all teams were totally isolated, there was not an opportunity in which everyone could exchange their knowledge and create new things in a short period of time. The Global Game Jam is the place where all people with the interest to develop video games meet and this allows the development of the video games community of our country to grow. "
On the other hand, Amalia Gómez, a student from Cybernetics, said that the biggest contribution that this event gives her is the fact to have to develop a product that is usable in only 48 hours with people who are from different disciplines.
One of the most rewarding things that this appointment has is to exchange with people from other specialties, and also to realize that the development of this event is the result of integrating with people who design a game beyond programming it.
In this sense, she pointed out that the existence of this type of competition guarantees that people who are motivated to this branch find a space to create, allowing a community to be structured and force the development of video games in Cuba.
