A postgraduate specialization in Computer Security starts at UCI
The postgraduate specialization in Computer Security, coordinated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), started this week at the Ernesto Che Guevara school building at the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI).
With a high practical component, the preparation will have the objective of developing the skills of specialists in this field, coming from different organizations and entities of the country, to improve their performance in the comprehensive protection of computer systems and data networks.
Dr.Sc. Walter Baluja García, Director of Computerization of MES, gave a lecture on security mechanisms, which is included in the course on Fundamentals of Computer Security.
The postgraduate syllabus has both a basic and a specialized module, with a total of 14 training courses, research seminars, publication of articles in referenced journals, participation in scientific events and the defense of a final comprehensive project, according to the information given by MSc. Henry Raúl González Brito, Computer Security Methodologist at UCI and coordinator of the course.
We also learned, in an exchange with the Director of Informatization of MES, that this is the first training on the subject that is carried out in Higher Education that is very much in line with the program of informatization of the Cuban society.
He added that for this purpose, around 200 applications were received and 60 of them were accepted, which will be distributed in two groups of 30 students each, to alternate their activities for approximately three years, a period designed for the preparation of these specialists.
With a faculty of highly qualified professors, the specialty aims to develop in its graduates high skills, abilities and knowledge to act with responsibility, commitment and ethics in this professional activity and in the solution of the cybersecurity problems of their entity and the country.
