Sports cheerfulness in times of Mella Games
Art and sports walked hand in hand in the opening of the XV edition of the Mella Sports Games, as a socializing space among the promoters of athletic activities in this institution.
Brightened up with the participation of the Prince of Heights, Javier Sotomayor, the gala started with the parade of the six competing schools, which developed different initiatives including presentations of rhythmic gymnastic tables, choreographies and the exhibition of different artistic manifestations.
The weather conditions did not stop the participants from marching in the parade along the Mella Square, as protagonists of the great sports party taking place in this house of higher studies, a celebration devoted to the Students’ Day, the Sports Day and the XV Anniversary of the foundation of the University.
In this space several students were awarded: Michel Collazo and Dannicel Tersilla as winner of the marathon, a representation of the best athletes of the year 2016, led by Yoana González and Solanch Ríos as well as Erivaldo Matias, José Luis Guisao and Roberto Menejias in the female- male branches respectively.
Likewise, Noidis Barroso was recognized for obtaining the first place and a record in the FITT-Cuba 2017 event. Chess was declared as the best individual sports, and futsal occupied the position of the best group discipline. In addition, a special prize for his effort and will was awarded to the student Sergio Luis Reyna from the Introductory School of Computer Sciencie (Fici).
This colorful event represents an opportunity for our students to show their high sportive level and to promote the athletic activity in this center of higher education.
