The Clinical Trials Management System XAVIA Clinics was designed with the aim of computerizing the processes of design and implementation of clinical trials at the request of the Cuban Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM).

On this day September 28th, FELTI 2017, the for Information and Technology Businessmen and Leaders was concluded at the Hotel Meliá Habana. The event had four keynote addresses, two panels and several presentations, as well as a business round and the LATINATEC awards ceremony.

During the closing ceremony of this 2017 edition, it was announced that the Clinical Trials Management System XAVIA Clinics, of the Medical Informatics Center (CESIM), from the University of Informatics Sciences, had been honored with one of the LATINATEC Awards. The trophy was received by the MSc. Filiberto López Cossio, director of CESIM.

This Award recognizes the organizations, projects and individuals that contribute to the growth of knowledge and the ICT industry in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Organizing Committee of FELTi rewards those who, with the knowledge and the doing, contribute to the annual growth of the Latin American information technology industry.

The Clinical Trials Management System XAVIA Clinics was designed with the aim of computerizing the processes of design and implementation of clinical trials at the request of the Cuban Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM). Since its birth, CIM has developed a series of biomolecules for the treatment of different diseases. Basic research projects are focused on cancer immunotherapy; especially in the development of "molecular vaccines", antibody engineering, cellular engineering, bioinformatics and regulation of the immune response in the search for new products for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the immune system.

The system developed by CESIM enables CIM specialists and medical personnel involved in the Clinical Trials in the country's Health Institutions to carry out electronic data capture; thus eliminating double entry of the data during the execution of the clinical trials, that in turn allows the remote transmission of data between the national network of hospitals and the center itself.

This system is used in the country's 15 provinces in 176 clinical sites (141 polyclinics for primary health care and 35 hospitals and centers specialized in secondary health care. Actually, this means a significant saving of material and monetary resources for the country, and at the same time it guarantees an adequate traceability and safety of the Clinical Trials performed.
