I Workshop Advanced Technologies for Cultural and Natural Heritage Management

10Mar
TO
23May

The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), devices and other digital technologies in the social field has generated the search for new ways to rethink the research, promotion and management of cultural and natural heritage in a creative way. As a consequence, audiences trained under an analogical mentality have had to make the leap to the digital and the virtual area. In the same way, professionals who perform these tasks need the necessary digital competencies through learning the most demanded technologies, which allows them to improve their employability, promote entrepreneurship and encourage new actions in areas related to the sociocultural management of cultural and natural heritage. This has accentuated a substantial innovation of methodologies and formats.

On an international scale, there are abundant experiences of good practices based on the use of digital technologies and devices in heritage management processes, making the latter an extensive and participatory professional experience that allows for permanent updating. Such is the case for the dissemination and enhancement of cultural and natural heritage, the use of digital tools, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, as well as the design, development and management of websites and mobile applications. Another example of this is in the management and documentation of cultural and natural heritage, the use of digitization of documentary heritage (2D) and movable and immovable heritage (3D), digital photogrammetry and three-dimensional modeling, Digital Humanities and Artificial Intelligence for digitization, transcription and text recognition of ancient manuscript and printed documentary heritage, as well as digital tools for territorial, spatial and landscape management.

In the Cuban case, there are experiences scattered throughout the national geography; however, despite the directed and established programs related to the field of Telecommunications / ICT, Computerization of Society and Automation; the development achieved in the careers of Computer Sciences; the increased implementation of computer resources and digital technology in areas such as architecture, design, restoration and communication; the use and implementation of these advanced technologies are still insufficient. On the other hand, in the national scientific events dedicated to the processes of patrimonial management, the topic of the use of digital technologies continues to be treated as something secondary; when among the experiences left by the time lived in the COVID-19 pandemic was the explosion in cyberspace of the diffusion of the cultural and natural heritage of all humanity, declared or not.

In this sense, the workshop is aimed at exchanging experiences and best practices on the use of so-called advanced technologies as a key alternative to promote the management of cultural and natural heritage within the framework of the new Cuban legislation from science and innovation. It also seeks to establish a scientific-technological platform for the socialization of experiences, the promotion of options aimed at professional improvement and the development of digital technologies applicable to the management of the Cuban nation's cultural and natural heritage as a final goal.
