The Center of Technologies for Education (FORTES) gave a warm welcome to more than 60 participants from all the provinces of the country, who will be attending the Seminar for the training in the use of the Higher Education Admission Management System (Sigies), which began this Thursday until next November 7.

The main objectives of the seminar are to increase the skills of the Admission Commissions (CIP) provincial staff, and of the Direction of Admission and Job Placement (DIUL) in the use of the new computer system, and to have some interaction with the project team. It is also an appropriate moment to detect and discuss possible weaknesses of the product, which is in its release stage at present.

The opening ceremony was chaired by MSc. René Sánchez Díaz, Director of Admission and Job Placement; MSc. Irina Brito Reyes, General Director of Production at UCI, and MSc Yerandy Manso Guerra, Director of the Center of Technologies for Education, Fortes. In addition, specialists from the University Support Center and Sigies project members were also present; the latter are those in charge of dictating the preparatory lectures and the training on the computer platform.

In his speech, MSc. René Sánchez highlighted the seriousness and commitment of UCI in the development of the new system, as well as the responsibility, commitment and dedication for this task shown by the members of the Provincial Admission Commissions every year.

Starting on this academic year, Sigies will be the technological support of the process of admission to Cuban universities, as students from the senior high schools obtain a university degree based on their knowledge, their academic average and the result of the tests for admission to higher education.
