A controversial issue on culture, capitalism, society and the Cuban Revolution was shared this afternoon by the Cuban journalist and researcher Enrique Ubieta, who was visiting the University of Informatics Science (UCI), à propos of the Cuban Culture Day.
The publisher of La Calle del Medio presented the book of its authorship Cuba: Revolution or reform?, published by the Abril Publishing House in 2012.
During the conversation Ubieta illustrated with examples the social model of triumph or happiness sold by the capitalists. In that sense he alluded to the cultural or war values addicted to "building superheroes that do not change society".
On the contrary, socialism, as emphasized by the essayist, strives to situate the social being at the forefront and also to impose that culture.
The Cuban intellectual urged to break the cultural stereotypes and to have clarity of the sense of existence because "social conscience is not directly determined with material goods".
Ubieta defended the conservation and deepening of socialism, whose culture, as he said, rests on the commitment to men, social justice, solidarity and altruism.
The Cuban writer later interacted with representatives of the university community present in the Library, on topics such as consumerism, democracy and the need for more spaces for debate around the country.
