On December 12th, 2002, the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) was created by our undefeated Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Its always futuristic vision for the new projects that favored the scientific and social development in Cuba have been present in every idea developed from its initial conception.

The remodeling of old buildings in the area where the UCI is located today and the construction of other buildings for the new student city took place in only 106 days, allowing the University of The Informatics Sciences to open its doors for the first academic year, with students and teachers from all over the country.

This way was created the UCI, home of high studies, in which human resources continues to be specialized in the research and development of software and computer services for the computerization of Cuban society and for cooperation with other nations, as a contribution to a better world which is possible.

Fidel, as founding strategist, recommended that the University must be conceived as a new type center of national scope, with atypical characteristics and concrete tasks in the computerization project of Cuban society, with an emphasis on software production. A center that would train its students from an outstanding political, cultural and sporting activity, objectives that have been fulfilled through the interrelation of Training-research-production-university extension as a single and coherent process.

In these 14 years, the has achieved important results in our country and worldwide prestige, standing out its participation in the Missions Miracle of the years 2004 and 2005 paying attention to patients from Latin American countries affected by the sight, participation At the World Summits of the Information Society, convened by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), held in Geneva (2003) and Tunis (2005); Serving as the Caribbean regional headquarters of the Contests of the ACM-ICPC and in the different editions of the Conventions and International Information Technology Fair; International Congresses of University and Pedagogy; Making applications deployments in national institutions, among others.

This university institution has been dedicated to the production and commercialization of software, inserting itself gradually in this complex industry. Account With 10 graduations, and has given to the Cuban society 14 092 computer science engineers who are working in all corners of the country.

This Tropa de Futuro, named like this a day like today by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, reaffirms its commitment to the work of the Revolution because the UCI is Fidel.
